Thursday November 14: Working Away in Beaufort, SC

What a wonderful thing to see! Our battery charger back in place :-)

We could still charge the batteries by running the engine of course - except for the generator battery which is not charged by the alternator on the engine. With the water in the engine issues, we were just choosing to stay at marinas instead. Shore power is a wonderful thing :-)

I took on reinstalling the charger while Steve worked on getting the vented loop in the water exhaust system. Mine was the easy job but since it require small hands it was an easy decision. Steve's job required hand strength - definitely his area!

First the brass parts had to be put together and the clear water hoses attached.

He had already made up the rubber heater hose parts and attached them to the engine. Funny what strange looks we get walking into the auto parts store asking for a heater hose.

They need to know what kind of car. We say boat. They don't say anything. We know what we need - can you look around at the hoses you have hanging on the wall? It's always a long process :-) But in the end we found what we needed.

Next was to put it all together and attach it to the beam running above the engine. So now the water will have an air break and in theory will then not flood into the engine.

Looking in from the aft cabin, the water level was certainly higher than at least some of the cylinders! I've tried starting the engine several time and all seems well. We'll know for sure tomorrow ....

We finally finished up about 3 pm and decided a celebration was in order. I put everything back in its place while Steve used the marina car to run to the grocery store.

And what better way to celebrate than lobster for dinner!! Nice job, once again, Steve for the great food that goes down on Yesterday's Dream :-)

Off tomorrow - not sure how far or where but the winds are staying mild, the temperatures are coming back up and we are continuing south.
