November 9: Near Charleston, SC

Up at 6:15 this morning. Steve said it was light. I don't think so .... but I got up anyway as we were again looking to catch the currents.

When I turned on the GPS I knew for sure it wasn't light out! The colors were the NIGHT colors - dark blue for the water instead of a light blue.

I had been tricked ...... but the currents were definitely going our way!

It wasn't until we were 20 minutes underway that the sun actually made it's appearance over the trees in the eastern sky.

By then I was totally awake and we were headed out of Georgetown with a destination near Charleston. A long day of 60 miles - 10 miles longer than I thought it was. Definitely good to have had an early start ...

Funny how the waterways have changed. From the Waccamaw River with it's tree lined banks to the grasslands that lined most of the water today. It's very much like Georgia except here in South Carolina the path is mostly a straight line - unlike Georgia which is like the yellow brick road with all of its twists and turns.

Sight a boat a head of you in Georgia? Only a mile as the crow flies but 4 miles ahead by the winding waterways! We'll be there soon enough.

Did I mention that it was cold? The first day for gloves on the flybridge. I mean after all the sun wasn't even up.

The gloves felt pretty darn good for the first few hours of the trip today.

Steve provided hot coffee and oatmeal on the way for breakfast so all was good :-)

FINALLY! The bow wave dolphins are back! The northern dolphins just don't seem to interested in having fun but the southern ones sure do.

He was up on the bow again talking to the 3 dolphins that were swimming in the bow wave. Not sure why they like to do that but Steve being up there sure keeps the dolpins there longer than when he isn't looking down on them!

Weird/fun sightings: two canoes connected by a number of wires and a large what appeared to be a wooden frame. Not sure what that was all about.

And the house in the Isle of Palms that usually has a giant smiley face has changed to a pumpkin for the holidays. Still fun!

It was a good wildlife day with many, many flocks of birds - all chattering at once. The dolphins, a deer that was in the water and then ran off to the shore, three bald eagles and a tree full of not-sure-what white birds! Overall a very good day. Just tiring ....

But we were in and tied up by 2:15 so lots of good football watching to be had! And more tonight yet.

It was a good day.
