Sunday November 17: Shoehorned in at Jekyll Island, GA

Our plans to leave the anchorage early were stymied quickly by the fog - couldn't see the other trawler we knew was up the river farther nor could we see the ferry dock we knew was at the river entrance.

Guess we will wait!

It wasn't too long until the fog lifted enough that we were able to head out. The goal was today was to get through Little Mud River when it was full instead of when it was low tide- no skull and crossbones for us :-)

We had good success at getting through Little Mud River - and decent success at making it through Jekyll Creek at something other than dead low tide. I think we made it with a foot of water above low tide. Time to relax - the dock is in sight!

Relax? We're supposed to dock where? In that small space between the giant catamaran and the sailboat?  Ok - if you say it's long enough, I'm game.

Of course when the guys on the dock see a woman driving they automatically become concerned!

But no issues - no hitting of the dock or the boat on either end of us. Of course it's very nice to have the guys on shore with muscle power on the lines of course :-) And Steve to have everything all set up and ready :-)

Smartest thing we did all day? Watched the first half of the Browns game (definitely the best part for us) and then recorded the rest.

Why sit in the front v-berth watching a bad ball game? For the first time in a long time we had to put sunscreen on before we headed out for a bike ride around Jekyll Island.

There are some GREAT bike paths that run just about everywhere on the island. Many, many live oaks and lots of plaques about the area as well.

The first Christmas decorations we've see so far. Lots of these around the park with runs along about half of the island.  This is really a pretty area and one of our usual stops as we travel north or south.

One of these times through we'll stop at the museum. Bad timing on our part, I guess, as it never seems to be open when we come.

The Jekyll Island Club, one of the attractions on this island, was the place the wealthy spent time in the early 1900's. For history of the Club, click here.

Back to the boat for dinner and an enjoyable sunset. Early morning again tomorrow .... not sure I like it getting light so early and dark so early ....  Destination: Amelia Island - FLORIDA!!
