Wednesday, September 1: Still in Charlevoix

After a rainy night and morning, we decided to just stay put today. The winds are supposed to change to the east so it will make for a nice ride to the next town - a relatively short 23 miles away.
We ran into Peter and Cheryl (we met them a week or so ago in Spanish) who also spent a couple of nights here and they knew how to play euchre!! So it was an enjoyable evening as two other couples joined us (also traveling the loop). They were just learning how to play so after they took off for their boats, Cheryl and I took on Steve and Peter. The card gods were smiling on us: ladies - 3 games, guys - none :-)
Steve took a walk to see the mushroom houses - most built in the 1930's by Early Young. There are over two dozen of these little homes scattered around town. Also spotted was a monarch butterfly sculpture which was kind of neat. We have seen tons of the real thing as they make their way to Mexico for the winter. Don't know how they manage to do that.
Since it was my choice for lunch, we went to Burger King - the first fast food we have seen in quite some time so I couldn't pass it up! My whopper junior was great!!
Also spotted a tall ship just leaving the harbor so that was fun. There are some BIG boats in tonight - along with the couple of large ones that were here when we arrived (Steve stepped the really big one off at 140 feet and the bumper in the picture from yesterday was 9 feet long!). Kids continue to play in the fountain by the marina as it was again quite warm today although we didn't run the air conditioner. Unlike yesterday when it ran most of the day.
Up early tomorrow to take advantage of the weather window. There are already gale wind warnings out for Friday night and Saturday. Nearshore forecast (within 5 miles of shore) is for 9 - 12 foot waves! Think we are going to find a place to hide out for sure. Not very nice weather for Labor Day weekend.
