February 27th: Zoom Celebration Of Linda's Life; Fully Vaccinated!

After considering the chances of an in-person Celebration of Linda's Life May 22nd, we decided to opt for a Zoom Celebration February 21st. The more we thought about it, and virtually everyone agreed, Linda would love that! Many people helped make it a wonderful success and tribute to Linda. If you weren't able to join us and would like to see part of it, I can provide that. The files are large but contact me and we'll make it happen.

I was able to complete my COVID vaccination. Getting the appointments was a challenge but my second shot was a breeze. The Del Mar Fairgrounds was very efficiently set up and I was in and out, including the 15 minute wait time, in 25 minutes!

We had some big winds here in Encinitas. Those winds slammed Matt &Wendy's patio door into a window. The window lost.

So a project was undertaken. Matt and Wendy handled it all successfully

It was a challenge because the window was in a metal frame that we built into the wall many years ago.

I am including one last photo of the Yucca plant at the San Elijo Lagoon.

It ended up with a lot more flowering branches. The hummingbirds love the open blossoms. I tried but couldn't get a good picture of the hummingbirds. Elusive and fast little critters!

Cardiff Beach Stairs

I decided to ride my bike to the Cardiff Beach for something different. Turns out it's very nice. Also, there is a very long set of stairs, great for exercise. Also saw a warning sign that didn't relate to me, but there were surfers in the water regardless of the sign!

Also went to the Torrey Pines State Park. It has a great trail that goes up to the top of the cliff and then a beach trail that ends at the ocean. The tide needs to be low enough so I can walk back along the beach. Wednesday the tides were just right. So I hiked up the mountain, about 30 minute hike. When I got to the top, there was a sign that said, "Beach access closed, stairs removed for maintenance." Seems like a sign at the bottom would be appropriate! Anyway, I found another trail that went out to the cliffs overlooking the ocean with a great view, so all was good in the end.

Because I was fully vaccinated, as were Craig and Karen, I went for a visit to San Juan Capistrano to see them. It was a great visit. Karen found a delicious but labor intensive shrimp recipe in her cooking magazine. It turned out to be a three person effort and they were great. Karen did all the work getting everything we needed and preparing the numerous stuff to put on the shrimp. Karen kept saying, "Read the recipe". Can't say that was at the top of Craig's and my list, but per her insistence, all went well.

Craig and I went for a bike ride Friday afternoon past a lot of horse stables. The neighborhood houses at least several hundred horses. It's fun to see the horses. They are all very well groomed and obviously well cared for. The horse stables were here first so they are part of the local zoning allowances.
People who want to have horses love this community!

We also went for a long strenuous hike Saturday morning. The views were great. We saw a huge house being built. Note the tennis court and basketball court on the right. Really makes me wonder, "Who would want something this large?"

I was able to get another fun video of my favorite birds the sanderlings.

Now that I am fully vaccinated, I believe it is safe to fly to Florida to check on Yesterday's Dream. Hopefully, I will find the boat in good shape and I'll have it launched so I can take it to Banana Bay. I will do whatever maintenance is needed and spend some time at Banana Bay, perhaps through April. Then I'll return to Encinitas after storing the boat again until the Fall. At some point I will go back to Ohio, maybe in May before returning to Encinitas.
