After the short trip to Ohio, we headed
back north to the Trent on Thursday afternoon. By Friday late
afternoon, Becky and I moved Guppy to Bobcaygeon while Steve drove
the rental car to meet us.
It was a perfect weather day again –
light breeze and warm sun.
Of course no trip to Bobcaygeon is
complete without a trip to the bakery for a chelsea bun for breakfast.
They may actually be getting better every year! I say this because
sometimes the memory is better than the reality but in this case the
reality IS better (or at least at good as) the memory.
It was a crazy night at the lower lock
dockage area with the arrival of the houseboats (a vacation week with
them begins on Fridays so Bobcaygeon is the most favorite place for
the first night).
Fortunately we had stopped at the top
of the lock for the night!
Off to Lovesick! We were through the lock at Bobcaygeon at
9:30 for a fast run through Pigeon and Buckhorn lakes.
The goal was
to arrive at Lovesick right around 11 am with the hope that we would
be able to get a spot for the night. It's one of the most popular
stops – and the favorite fishing spot for Steve and Becky.
From the lower docks at the lock it's also a nice place to swim. The water is about 78 degrees - perfect for cooling off from the now 80 degree days.
It wasn't too long before Becky pulled
up a nice bass! One of the downsides of fishing off of the dam is
that when a fish is caught, it's necessary to climb down to the side
of the dam to be able to pull the fish in.
Nice fish – great job bringing it in!
Steve was not to be outdone but his
fish really wasn't close to the size of Becky's :-)
And a great picture of Becky and me on
top of the dam!
Lovesick is where we caught up with
Peter and Cheryl (Deja Vu), Jim and Linda (Symmetry II) and Bob and
Linda (Waypoint). They convinced the lockmaster to let them stay
docked until we were able to make our way to Lovesick. It was a quick
reunion as they had to move along (there is a 1 night limit to stay
there with “checkout” at 11 am).
We then joined them at Burleigh Falls
lock about 8pm or so for the last night stay in Canada for Becky.
Steve had driven the rental car to Burleigh Falls lock earlier in the
day (Peter used Jim's dinghy to go and pick him up as Lovesick is
accessible only by water).
The whirlwind tour of Ohio and the Trent
ended for Becky Saturday morning as we said goodbye's early that
morning. She headed off to Toronto to make a noon flight back to
California. It was a short but great visit :-)
The trip on to Lakefield was supposed
to be a leasure trip involving perch fishing – well, not so much!
The first place on Clear Lake (where the guy in the cottage yelled at
us – we were on a houseboat – as we were spoiling his view!!!)
was already taken by a boat fishing.
No problem, we'll stop at the lake
below Young's Point and fish. Not so much there either! Too many boats
flying by and without being able to stay in one spot, perch are
really hard to catch.
Oh well – there is always another day
to fish! Sunday night on the lock wall at Lakefied was very quiet and
peaceful with several large cruisers headed north on their Great Loop
journey.
Yesterday we moved a mile back to the
Lakefield Marina to join Deja Vu, Symmetry and Waypoint. We've been
here two nights now and will be here again tomorrow night. Maybe we'll
move on Thursday – who knows!
This has been one of the better sunsets
that we have seen lately.
It's been a very enjoyable and relaxing
few days – just catching up on some down time. The evenings have
been spent enjoying the company of a group of really nice friends.
Once again, I'm reminded of just how fortunate we are to be able to do
what we are doing.
