Thursday July 3: Headed back to Bobcaygeon

Finally after a truly enjoyable 4 days at Lakefield, it was time to move on. Peter, Cheryl and Lois on Deja Vu and Linda and Bob on Waypoint were headed south. Their plan: take the Trent south to Lake Ontario then on to Kingston and north on the Rideau Canal to Ottawa.

Jim and Linda on Symmetry and us on Guppy were headed north on the Trent to retrace some of the places we wanted to see again before heading south.

The weather was iffy Thursday morning but by the time we finally left the marina, the sun was mostly out and it looked a nice travel day. The destination was for us was back to Lovesick Lock where we intended to spent the night this time.

That was the plan. The weather had plan B! We were just entering the lock at Young's Point and Steve turned around and looked behind us. Mmmm... seems there are some pretty dark clouds forming – wonder which way they are headed.

Decision time: stay or go? We ended up deciding to just spend the night there as the dark clouds just came and went. After all, we had traveled a whole 8 miles!

Steve made Miso Soup (super excellent – thanks again to Vivian and Dave for the recipe!!) - which given the weather was perfect. Linda added an apple salad and biscuits for an enjoyable meal on Symmetry.

Coolest thing today: the pair of loons that had a nest next to one of the concrete pylons just across from where we were docked. It seemed the most unlikely and vulnerable place for a nest. Both parents were active in keeping the eggs warm as we saw first one on the next and then the mate taking over. Really cool.

We'll be back this way in a few days – I hope they are at least still there and at best the young will have hatched and be there as well.

The water on the Trent is very high this year – as it is as well for Georgian Bay and the North Channel. Definitely a good thing. As we passed Burleigh Falls on our way to Bobcaygeon, it was easy to see how much more water was coming over compared to previous years.

We're back to Bobcaygeon tonight – just in time for the arrival (and entertainment of) the Happy Days Houseboats!

More later this weekend …...
