Sunday July 6: Bobcaygeon – Crazy as Always!

The arrival time to Bobcaygeon early Friday afternoon gave us a chance to get settled before all of the craziness of this harbor began. By being patient and waiting for small boats to leave, we were able to dock right next to Jim and Linda on Symmetry – or so we thought!

The lockmaster came around late in the day with the news that the Kawartha Voyager would be arriving in the morning and we would need to vacate our spot.

It was our intention to stay a second night so fortunately we both found other spots later in the day but not next to each other.

The first of the houseboats arrived right on schedule around 8:30 or so. No wild parties though so it was a peaceful night.

And right on schedule Saturday morning came the Voyager. It sure takes up a lot of dock space! Quite the squeeze through this area on a busy Saturday.

Of course the first order of business was a trip to the bakery to pick up chelsea rolls for breakfast. We REALLY need to leave this bakery behind!

There was even a parade through town complete with a bagpipes – how can it get better than that?

The town was overrun with people and the waterway a constant parade of boats traveling through the lock here. Houseboats were constant as the three remaining houseboat rental places all turn over on either Friday night or Saturday morning. It was quite the people watching opportunity.

No trip to Bobcaygeon is complete without breakfast at the Full Cup and since we missed it last time through it was on the list for today. It did not disappoint – still the best peameal bacon anywhere!

The walk back took us past the Stoneyhurst Motel – another icon that has been here forever.

A little history of the Trent Canal. You may need to right click and then choose open in a new tab to be able to read the inscription.

Today we'll be off to Buckhorn as we turn again and head south on the canal system.

The red line is the path we travel between Bobcaygeon and Lakefield - one of the most popular parts of the Trent.
