Thursday July 12: 3 for the Price of 2. How Do You Turn That Down?!

The concert in the park last night was custom made: Country!! The old kind of country - Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and George Jones. Singing was sometimes a bit shaky but a great evening. Steve cooked supper on our one-burner stove (with the cooler acting as a wind break). Overall, a great evening (although the mosquitoes did show up later).

So the marina here is offering a stay two nights - third night is free. Sounds like a bargain to us. Plugged in (so I can sew), Canadian Tire, 3 breakfast places and a REAL Chinese restaurant - how can we go wrong :-)

After breakfast at the Riverview Cafe, we took our list of stuff we needed (how much more can we get into this little boat???) and headed to Canadian Tire. It was a successful trip with us being able to get 3 new tires for our bikes, a boat hook (rather needed for going through locks - as we remembered when we were going through 12 locks to get here!) and assorted other things which would allow us to complete some projects - like fixing the hatch, securing a laundry basked under the aft deck to hold hoses, electrical lines, etc. I had the 3 tires in my packpack - secured with a bungee chord!

As I worked inside sewing the beginnings of a cockpit cover, Steve took on the job of replacing 1 of the tires on his bike (the one with the patch job of course) and both tires on my bike. We would still like to find another tire for his bike but the critical ones have been replaced. Shade is a wonderful thing!

We checked out the Chinese place for lunch - wonderful. Dinner tomorrow night is already planned :-)

Meanwhile, Steve found a place to have vinyl letters made to order - 2.5 miles out of town. Off he went on his bike and was able to get what we needed to officially name Guppy :-) Once we decided the best positioning, on the letters went.

It's now our new boat! Steve is very happy :-)

It occurred to us that perhaps we should include a city/state but as we talked about it, what would we put? Green Cove Springs, FL? Don't REALLY live there though. Cleveland, OH? Don't live there anymore. Marathon, FL? Probably the longest we are anywhere. Final decision: no home port since we don't really have one.

Once we again had shade (about 3 pm) work in earnest began on the cockpit cover. I've never made one of these so it's a learning process to get it to fit the way I would like. Lots of on/off. We were able to finish a good part of it today but since it was closing in on 6:30, we decided it was time to quite.

Steve is the snap master and worked just off the side of the boat - putting in the snaps as we marked them to fit. Job to be finished tomorrow.

In the meantime, Steve is cooking tonight on our new Coleman stove. It has certainly changed since our first Coleman stove many years ago. It is no longer green (although they do still make THE original Coleman with the pump, red tank and everything) and is rather modernistic looking. It uses propane - which means it is used only on shore and NOT on the boat :-)
