Sunday July 8: Oswego Revisited .....

Like I said, you know how the weathermen lie! The lock didn't open until 7 am this morning so there was no rush to get going and the slap of small waves on the side of the boat indicated the wind was not as low as it was predicted to be. But we went through the lock, fueled up and headed out to check out the lake. Mmmm.. I see whitecaps .... never a good sign when you want to cross Lake Ontario. What to do. Easy decision - stay put as we did not want a repeat of the first time we crossed to lake to go to the Trent. Not pleasant memories!

So spent a day in Oswego. We have been here before (waiting for the lake to calm down) but had ridden around only on the east side of the canal to check out Fort Ontario. First though Steve had to put a temporary patch on his bike tire. The tire looked great but he is guessing was stored in the sun. It was just a small slit in the tire but with some rubber wrapped around it, a cable tie to hold it and electrical tape to hold everything together, it worked just fine!

We'll pick up a tire somewhere along the way.

We found a nice marina that has fairly good protection from the waves rolling in from the lake. It's a time for some napping in the afternoon and maybe a project or two.

The opening of Lake Ontario as seen from a bridge over the canal. Looks calm but it's not. Tomorrow is supposed to be less than 1 foot waves and the winds die down so it'll be up and out of here for an early start.

Below are a few pictures from yesterday that didn't want to load.

The Erie Canal was very peaceful after the rains passed on.

Where we docked in Oswego. Free wall - no power but that's fine. We eventually moved farther back to be under a bridge (behind us).

Steve doing his favorite thing: cooking on shore. Eggplant  on the grill and spaghetti - the perfect meal :-)
