Monday July 2: Working Away in Syracuse, NY

The steam cleaning continued yesterday with Steve doing the entire cabin from the galley back - including the aft crawl in cabin (where we may end up sleeping). Meanwhile, I took care of washing/drying all of the slipcovers of the cushions in the cabin. Why not since all were nicely made with zippers and all. Of course getting the foam back in was a challenge but Steve was up to it! Finally, we are ready to begin the list of things we wanted to do before taking off.

First was getting the aft deck and flybridge canvases up. We had ordered these online and wanted to see if they fit and if they were a decent product. Both were a nice surprise! First it was to unwrap the boxes (we had them delivered to the marina here).
At first glance, we were pleased to see the quality seemed to be actually pretty decent. The material is not sunbrella (the BEST you can get) but for a boat that will be used for 3 months a year, it seemed more than adequate.
Fortunately, it was a very easy "match 1 with 1, 2 with 2, etc." to put the poles together. Not that we didn't have some issues anyway!
On the boat it went. The fit was actually very good and we were able to use some of the fittings that were already on the boat. Sadly I didn't take a picture of the aft deck canvas up!
Aft canvas was a job done. Fortunately it was time for a lunch break at Taco Bell. Steve found a great deal of comfort by leaning against the window - just like a heating pad! Must be from cleaning the rest of the boat with the Rug Doctor. But it worked SO well it was definitely worth it.
Back from lunch, it was time for the flybridge canvas. We had put it together before lunch so the next step was to attach it to the boat. First time we have had burgandy canvas but the blue available was not the greatest. Although you would think the second one would be easier, there are always issues. In order to take advantage of fittings already on the boat, Steve had to one of the guys here at the marina retap the fitting.
Next, two of the poles had to be cut off as both would be fitted to the radar  arch using existing fittings. Out came the dremel (which actually has a home at this point) - job done. Now a trip to home depot for a few bolts and screws.

Job will be finished tomorrow ... too late to be cutting and besides the neighbors asked us over for shrimp and clams.Who could turn that down??
