Steve was up early this morning as he wanted to walk the beach at low tide. There were lots of different sea birds as well as shells. The shelling is best just before low tide (not sure how he knows this - guess it's like all of the other stuff he seems to know :-) ). Me? I slept in as usual.
We truly are on the intercoastal at this point. So we travel the waterways which lie between the barrier islands (on the Gulf or west side) and the mainland (east side). This waterway continues for another hundred miles or so to Ft. Myers. The travel is very peaceful - high rise condos on one side (the Gulf side) and smaller condos or homes on the other. We passed a McDonalds on the water - complete with dock. We didn't stop as we weren't sure of the depth at dockside but I will definitely have McD's on the agenda when we reach Terri and Scott's in a couple of days!
Travel time from Caladesi State Park to Treasure Island was about 3 hours. We are at the dock of a wonderful couple: Jeff and Suzanne. They have a boat dock and no boat at the moment so they invite traveling cruisers to spend a night at their dock (their home is right on the waterway of course). Originally from Philly, they are northern transplants to Florida and are enjoying the Florida climate. It's amazing to me that they extend an invitation to traveling cruisers. I keep saying the best part of what we are doing is the great people we have had a chance to meet! What a wonderful opportunity for us.
Jeff met us at the dock - along with their St Charles Spaniels. They are SO soft and friendly. We learned that they were favored by royalty as the ladies would travel with a spaniel on their lap to stay warm in the unheated carriage. They did seem to like laying next to Jeff (in particular) on the couch! Oh - they also have a cat (Gracie as I recall) that was also very friendly!
Jeff and Suzanne have a beautiful home - especially the landscaping on the waterside. Yesterday's Dream looks right at home, don't you think?!!
Steve and Linda, thanks for your visit and those great gifts (unneeded charts/guide books and breakfast at the Sea Horse). You went overboard (so to speak; no pun intended!). Have a safe trip on your travels. Perhaps we'll hook up in Stuart in April.
ReplyDeleteSeeing you in Stuart would be fun! I think you'd really have a good time and an opportunity to look at lots of different types of trawlers is that's the way you decide to go :-)
ReplyDeleteRemember we have an extra cabin - complete with bedding and a private head!
Enjoying your travelog blog. Great pics! Just like a guidebook but with a personal touch.
