The travel time today was a nice 4 hours and 30 miles. The map at left shows in red how we have traveled south along the west coast of Florida. The yellow is the direction we will be going for the next week or so - weather permitting as the intercoastal waterway has ended here at Ft. Myers Beach. No more small "who cares what the wind is" water nicely situated between two shores! Trip distance traveled so far since leaving NY in May: 4050 miles! Hard to believe .....
Turns out we didn't get the early start we were expecting due to heavy fog this morning that didn't lift until about 11. Good thing though - Steve finally caught a fish! This is a sheepshead that he'd been trying for all day yesterday. The key? The right bait :-) And the key to getting it on land: the collapsible net! No way could I have run up to the flybridge, dug the giant net out from under the flybridge storage and be in time to net the fish. Good job with the Christmas present Wendy and Becky!
Travel today was really nice - hit one patch of fog for about 20 minutes but otherwise little wind and lots of sun (still cool in the shade though). Below is the lighthouse on the south end of Sanibel Island and the a picture looking backwards of San Carlos Bay.
The marina here at Ft. Myers is very close to what they call Times Square. Lots of tourist shops, restaurants and a nice pier. There was a one-man band playing in the courtyard (he was quite good!) as well as a McDonalds - right on the main drag! Steve was having fish for supper so I thought I might as well take advantage :-)
