January 17: Cayo Costa State Park

Some days we just happen to make the right decision - today was one of those days :-) We moved from the anchorage Saturday night to the park docks yesterday so we would have easier access to the park. It was a georgeous day - sun and high in the 70's. Lots of folks around - including some serious kayakers. Steve spent part of the day fishing and then we went for a short ride to the beach. The sign said we are in the 'real Florida' and whatever that means we were liking it :-) The water was still quite cool but the beach was really nice. Mostly made up of broken shells rather than sand but still enjoyable. The right decision was to stay put today and spend another night here. It began raining about 9 am or so and continued on throughout the day with a couple of thunderstorm rolling through as well. The best part of the day was the totally healthy breakfast of multigrain pancakes Steve made. Can't say they were the best I've ever had - but the bright side is he can finish all of therest of the box of mix himself!
Tomorrow: off to Ft. Myers Beach - about 35 miles. We were able to watch Chuck tonight - the ending was VERY frustrating!!
