Tuesday June 6: Leaving tomorrow???

So we've been under cover for the past 3 days. As nice as the first two days here were, the weather gods seems to be making up for it the last few days!

Most of our time has been spent still getting the boat back to order. Fortunately there is just about any kind of store you would want so we've been taking advantage of that.

My number one thing? Replace all of the batteries. I mean really - these batteries have been sitting around uncharged through 2 winters and 18 months. These will provide the power to start the engine as well as providing the power for everything electrical.

It fits in the category of how the time and circumstances of repairs is going to be chosen. We can make the choice by being proactive. Or we can let the boat choose by waiting for something to break and fix it then. Typically this results in less than ideal circumstances! Maybe we ARE getting smarter!!

So hauling out and replacing three batteries was Steve's job over the weekend. It's not a fun job.

The plan (and weather) is showing Thursday a good day to cross Lake Ontario. So yesterday (Monday) we decided we really should untie from the dock to make sure the engine is running correctly, right? It was a short run.

Engine runs great at the dock - not so much when trying to get up to speed! Back to the dock. Change spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor and fuel filter.

That was yesterday. Trial run today? Same issue. Mmmm ... what to do.

Might as well have a good dinner :-) Craig and Karen joined us tonight for salmon with dill sauce (one of my favorite ways to have salmon). I thought I was going a bit overboard fighting the cold with my fleece or jacket on most of the day but Karen took the cake with her Ugg boots! I mean really? Those Californians ....

Tomorrow the plan is to travel the 24 miles to Oswego - the leaving point to cross Lake Ontario. It's 55 miles from there to Kingston and the beginning of the Rideau Canal (which leads to Ottawa - the capitol of Ontario).

In the meantime we're enjoying docktails with our new napkins - a gift from Craig and Karen.

They actually found these in California

First thing tomorrow then is to check the mechanical timing advance mechanism inside the distributor which we (and the mechanic here) think is actually the problem. So it's either going to be a fix and we're off or it's going to be another couple of days here at Pirates Cove.
