Monday April 21: Leaving Marsh Harbor Tomorrow

We are still in Marsh Harbor enjoying the mostly sunshine - it's still very windy and Saturday was a stay in the boat day as the rains came and went throughout the day and evening.

Time to work on the generator for real. There just is no reason why we aren't able to get this crazy thing to work! So our final attempt (I should say Steve's final attempt - I had already given up), was to remove the heat exchanger to find out exactly why it was there was no water  flowing through the cooling system.

Once off and on the table for closer inspection, it was very clear: one of the elbows in the water system was totally plugged shut with what looked like pieces of broken off zinc (used to prevent electrolysis). Once that was uplugged, water flowed the way it should. Put everything back together and once again we have a functioning, in-house generator!

There's been several very nice sunsets with all of the cloudy skies so there's at least that!

Loved the one on the right that looks a flame burning in the sky ...

Yesterday the winds were still blowing but the sun was out. Time for a bike ride to see what else is around here.

I found a nature walk on the map so that was our destination. We passed this fun house on the way. The person who lives here is a woodcarver and s/he had some very interesting pieces hanging on the outside of the house and in the yard.

The flying harpie (not sure really what it is) was the funnest piece in my opinion.. Somehow the satellite dish (partially hidden behind the tree left) seemed a bit out of place though. Peter suggested it was just another wood carving ... he decided to take rest to think on it .....

This is a memorial pond Steve stopped to check out. Kind of fun -lots of little minnows but no turtles to be seen. Maybe someone already removed them all?

Well, we never did find the trail - even after riding 3 miles out to the airport and back. But Steve finally got a picture of the wild parrots only this one was quite stationary! It was in the round about near the airport. Cheryl, Steve and I were awaiting Peter's return from his quest for bottles of water at the airport. I had my doubts that he wasn't already locked up somewhere when suddenly he appeared - with two bottles of water in hand!

Best find of the day? An open bakery "Da Bes Yet" - and it was! No raisin cinnamon bread but the lady did have some cinnamon buns - would that do? Oh yes .... we'll do that!

Way better than bread for sure :-)

Last night we took advantage of the outdoor lounging area here at the marina to have dinner off of the boats. The grill was right here and it was time to finish off Peter's mahi mahi that he caught on the way over.

Once again the Cheryl and Steve combo cooking for dinner was wonderful. The bonus? Peter and Cheryl bought TWO cinnamon rolls and had one left. I boldly suggested that it would make a nice dessert ..... if they were willing to share ..... which they were. How kind :-)

We headed out for a bike ride again today and no sooner had I left the dock and my back tire was flat - again. Second time in 3 months.

Steve fixed it up nicely - good to go again. Amazingly we had an extra tube as well as a patch kit!

Tim
Matt

On a final note: Congrats to both Matt and his brother Tim for their running in the Boston Marathon today. A great job by both!!!

These are pictures of the last marathon we were able to attend as a cheering section: the Marine Corps Marathon in 2012.

We'll work on getting there to cheer next year!!!
