Monday August 19: 12-Mile Bay

The timing for us coming into Parry Sound could not have been any better. We were in and tied up by the time Cheryl's sisters and Mom had arrived!

And surprise - the Murray's were joining us there as well! They had called to find out where we were - can we meet up somewhere?

It was perfect - Symmetry (their new boat) was in Clayton, NY and they had a week or so to spend in Georgian Bay - on Deja Vu. Sounds like a party but first a trip to the grocery store and Walmart. The guys hauled back the provisions: Steve, Jim and Peter.

The Gang was all here :-)  Peter, Cheryl, Lois (Cheryl's mom), Linda, Jim and Steve and I. It was going to be a fun few days traveling on Guppy and Deja Vu!

As we left the dock, Deja Vu took the lead as their normal cruising speed is a bit faster than ours. Occasionally we would just speed up, catch up and then fall in line again.

Jim would be on the flybridge with Peter while the ladies enjoyed the view and conversation on the aft deck. What a life :-)

The weather was perfect - Peter took credit it for it but he wasn't fooling us. It was Lois that brought the good weather with her (mom's are just that way, right?)

Our first night was spent at Port Rawson Bay. It's a very large area within a provincial park so no cottages to worry about and lots of space.

Deja Vu anchored and was settled. We tossed our anchor out and pulled alongside. The night was so calm ..... and the morning so peaceful.

A quick kayak and we were ready to move on. Our anchor lines had tangled in the night but it was easy to undo the twist when we were out.

Once Guppy was underway, Deja Vu was ready to head out as well.

Monday was again another perfect travel day. The destination was a very protected anchorage we'd been to many times near 12 Mile Bay.

We waved to Henry's Fish Restaurant on the island of San Souci as we passed by. I had to think of my Dad who just loved to stop there and made sure our plans included stopping at lunchtime :-)

By the second night the routine was down. 1: both boats enter the anchorage 2: Deja Vu gets settled and well anchored 3: Cheryl, Jim and Linda man the starboard side with bumpers and lines 4: we pull Guppy up and tied up!

Simple :-)  I was beginning to love this kind of anchoring out!!

The kayaking was great as we checked out other areas near us. The question was always "could we get Guppy in here?" and most often the answer was - oh yea. So we are finding that there are so many places that are potential anchorage for the next time we are up here :)

Guppy and Deja Vu are very well suited for being tied up together. The walkarounds and railing are a pretty good match considering the size difference of 28' vs 43'. The traveling together is good ....

So we have all the advantages of anchoring out but no muss with the anchor. Perfect :-)

Every night was dinner on Deja Vu. The large dinette accommodated all of us with no problem. Steve and Cheryl were the planners and chefs for the 4 days we were out - what a feast every night!

This night was steak night (portabello mushrooms for Steve and I) on the grill - which included Cheryl's potatoes and onions made on the grill as well. Great dinner - once again! Peter did the steaks and Steve did the mushrooms. Good teamwork!

A perfect sunset for a perfect second day.
