Thursday October 14: Catching up at Cuba Landing

Finally - a decent connection. I think watching Chuck may be on the agenda tonight since we watch it on Hulu and need a good connection. We stayed Monday night at a great anchorage that Selah picked out. Before we left Green Turtle Bay on Monday, Steve was up early to take pictures of the sunrise with the mountains in the background.
The leaves continue to change colors - this may be the best fall we've ever seen as we continue to travel up the Tennessee River. We had a chance to kayak for the first time in many weeks as we were anchored totally off of the river. We saw a flock of turkeys and the coyote that was trying to catch one as well as a couple of bald eagles that flew out from the trees as we were watching the turkey action. We again rafted with Selah and Surona.
It was a nice sunset - just a really nice anchorage in general. We crossed the border from Kentucky to Tennessee early the next morning.
Tuesday and Wednesday night we stayed at Pebble Isle Marina near Camden, Tn - it's at the very top of Tennessee. We stayed a couple of nights. The marina provides great cinnamon rolls and coffee in the morning - what more could a person want! Tuesday night was the last dinner together with Selah and Surona as Peter and Cheryl returned to Midland, Ontario to celebrate Peter's mom's birthday. A road trip to drop them at Hertz was in order - complete with a stop of course at WalMart. We may end up being able to hook back up with them at some point.
As we traveled today a lazy 20 miles, we ended up at Cuba Landing. A bald eagle landed on the nearby shore to check out the dead fish laying there. The sign below makes me think we really ARE in Tennessee!
This is a very small marina but again a wonderful spot. Pine trees are dropping their needles in the woods nearby. It's down to Selah and Yesterday's Dream tonight. We'll continue traveling with Jim and Linda until they head south on the Tenn-Tom waterway to Alabama -- we will stay on the Tennessee River for another 200 miles to go to Chattanooga before we turn and head back to the Tenn-Tom.
More tomorrow!
