The night last night was spent at Clifton, TN and was a nice stop. The river is still a contrast between flat land and high cliffs. We have left Kentucky Lake behind - I kind of like this river travel. Very easy - peaceful - light wind - no waves. The weather has been unbelievable. Every day is sunny and cloudless save for one day with a storm (during which three boats were struck by lightening as they intended to anchor out and were caught in the river instead). We have had one day of rain in 2 weeks - what a contrast to July and August where it seems it rained every other day or so.
We were up early this morning to get a jump on the long day but the river was very foggy. So what else to do but go to the Cowgirls Truck Stop for breakfast! The marina had a courtesy car so we drove the 3 miles and enjoyed breakfast. Selah had left in the meantime as they were up earlier and had already eaten breakfast. We caught up with them by the end of the day.
In the meantime, we are getting the message to keep heading south as there were leaves on the deck this morning! I saw an interesting way to leave your boat for the winter: just leave it near the shoreline, wait till they lower the lake/river levels in preparation for winter (which was done starting the first part of October) and there you go!
Lake Pickwick (on the Tennessee/Alabama border) is really gorgeous. It's like boating in the mountains. This is one of the many houses along the shoreline. We decided it must belong to a country-western singer star - crazy huge!!
We'll stay here at least until Monday as the Browns play tomorrow and may stay an extra night so we can use the car and visit the Shiloh battlefield. Right now we are watching OSU losing to Wisconsin 28 - 18 in the fourth quarter. Hopefully they pull it out :-(
