OSU lost. The Browns lost. Other than that it was a good day! We went with Jim and Linda (on Selah) to visit the Shiloh National Military Park. It was very interesting and is the first battlefield Steve or I have ever visited. (This can't be said of my brothers who it seems have visited every battlefield in the South!). For dinner we found the catfish restaurant on the river - fun place to eat.
The marina provided a car with CD player and CD that lead you around the park so you can view the specific locations of the 2 day battle movements of the two armies. There was a movie at the visitor center that also gave an excellent background of the war leading up to the battle at Shiloh. The grounds are very well marked with many plaques and monuments spread over the 4,000 acre area.
This monument is one of many as they indicate where a particular regiment was located as the battle began and progressed over the two days. There are hundred of these monuments around as 100,000 men from the two sides engaged in this civil war battle. One of the largest monuments was dedicated to the Confederate soldiers.
We leave today and continue up the Tennessee River for a side trip to Chattanooga, TN. It's an odd trip as we will be in Alabama for much of the river but then follow it north and east back to TN. The trip is slightly over 200 miles and will take 7 or 8 days depending on how long we travel each day. Not sure how well the Internet coverage will be so will be blogging again when we can!
Selah will continue down the Tenn-Tom Waterway to leave their boat for the winter as they return home to Edisto Island, SC. We will miss them as we have been traveling with them and Surona since Chicago.
