Monday November 3: Marineland

It was a leisure morning yesterday as there wasn't any rush to leave St. Augustine. The current would be going our way at 11:30 or so. Might as well hang around and relax. Plus it would be a short day of 2 1/2 hours as we headed off to Marineland Marina.

Except I think there is someone who enjoys working more than relaxing. Trust that it is NEVER me that feels that way :-)

So the front hatch cover is much cleaner (after having sat out for 5 months so definitely time well spent).

Most of the travel today was through the marshlands which lie between Florida's ocean side beaches and the mainland.

Tons of wildlife as the tide was low and rising. The shore birds prefer the low tide as there is more area where their preferred food (whatever that is!) hides.

Lunch was served on the flybridge as we traveled. Cantina bowls - a real winner! Modeled after the same at Taco Bell - but of course Steve's are the best!

It wasn't long after we were docked that the bikes came off and over to the beach we went.

The thought was to perhaps ride along the beach but the rocks were just pretty much everywhere so we settled for a walk instead.

This is the beach that has the coquina rocks everywhere. Very unique for the east coast of Florida. Steve took a walk quite a ways down the beach to check out the shoreline.

The 'rocks' are made up of compressed sea shells. Doesn't seem like these could really be rocks but they are.

The fort at St. Augustine is actually made up of this type of rock. Guess if it's good enough for a fort it must be pretty strong, right? For more info, go to: coquina rocks.

The beach along this area is most rock rather than sand.

It was a gorgeous day though but I would not have wanted to be out on the ocean side on the boat. The waves were quite large.

After the beach it was off to the park just down the road a bit. It was formerly a campground but is now just a park that connects the waterway with the ocean.

Have a bike kickstand that doesn't work anymore? Just put a tennis ball on it :-) Nice fix ....

Time for bed. With the time change it now get dark at 6 or so. That means early starts to the day.

We're headed for Daytona Beach - about 5 hours. The plan is to be there for a couple of days.

I'm liking this being someplace for 2 days or so. Makes for some leisurely time ....
