We found a very nice spot (in the shade
most of the day) here at the Lakefield lock. It's been a very nice
two days here (as well as productive) but definitely time to move on.
Yesterday's project was to convert the
blower motor to a 3-way switch. Even having a blower motor was a
novelty as a diesel engine doesn't need one. The blower motor is in
the engine compartment and should be run 4 minutes or so just in case
gas fumes have somehow managed to leak out. Gas fumes, of course, are
quite explosive – I've read that it would be equivalent to a stick
of dynamite should it explode. So we're quite religious about running
it. In fact the blower motor runs constantly anytime the engine is
running. Anyway, the only switch for the blower was in the lower
helm. So after shutting down the engine, I had to go down into the
cabin in order to shut it off. Now with new wires run (strung through
the necessary spaces using the tape measure!), the blower motor can
be turned on or off at either helm. Doesn't seem like much I know but
it's like a light switch to a room that has two doorways: either
switch will turn the light on or off. How annoying if both switches
didn't turn the light on and off!
Score of the day went to Steve though.
Ever try to buy a timing light anymore? Very few cars anymore have
points – rather everything is electronic ignition. So no points =
no need for a timing light. Except Guppy still has points. The final
key to seeing how the engine is going to run was to use a timing
light to make sure the spark plugs are firing when they should.
Solution? A visit to the Sunday rummage sale at the Fairgrounds just
outside of town. A great deal for $5!! We'll see how our timing job
went when we head out today.
Just color me Happy :-) The highlight of yesterday? A visit to
McD's :-) It's been a REALLY long time but since there was one only a
two minute bike ride away, we (well, really just I but Steve came
along) just had to go for lunch. Wasn't disappointed :-)
There is a very nice group a families
docked across from us with kids that actually seem normal! Swimming
and everything! The fun part was watching as they tried to teach
their dog how to go down and up the 'Paws Aboard' ramp on their boat.
Eventually she did well but it took some coaxing until she figured it
out.
The Lakefield sign in white stones is
still along the river. Water is actually flowing pretty quickly –
maybe due to the rains of last week.
Hamblin's (breakfast and ice cream) is
still on the corner of the main drag through town. And of course the
Chinese restaurant is still there also.
Laundry is done. Quick trip for
breakfast and ice this morning and we'll head out. Plan to meet up
with Peter and Cheryl in Peterborough today.
