Saturday July 7: Oswego, NY

We left Pirates Cove about 9 or so. Just enough time to get ready, have some breakfast and head out. It was overcast which was a great thing given it has been SO hot! Except that 15 minutes after we left it started raining .... not a downpour but still rain. A reminder that this is NOT Yesterday's Dream with full flybridge enclosure!

The internet connection here is VERY slow so this will be the only picture for today. The canal is always quiet travel with many small sized homes along the shoreline.

There are 8 locks on the Oswego Canal - which leads to Lake Ontario - we went through 7 of them and are now at the top of the last lock before the lake. It was a good lock day with no crashing of the walls so that is always good!

We are at a pleasant spot under the shade of a bridge - of course we have to keep moving back but that's ok. The cabin is actually pretty cleaned up with all of the stuff we brought with us and the stuff we bought finding a home.

Tomorrow we'll head straight to the Murray Canal - the way to the Trent. It's 74 nautical miles (so about 80 regular miles). I'm thinking a combination of slow speed (8 mph) and fast speed (20 mph) to make the crossing in good time. Supposedly the lake will have 1 foot waves - but we know how they lie :-)

Our internet does not work in Canada so postings will be dependent on when we can find a signal (either a library or cafe). Will blog when I can but ......

If you need  reach us, the number to call is Steve's cell phone. Mine will be turned off once we leave the states.

Later .....
