Friday July 6: Time to Go

Since we had turned our car in yesterday, it was breakfast  in the boat for the first time - which meant an early start on installing the inverter. All parts for the job had been gathered so it should go well. And it did for the most part. Job completed by noon!

The work involved the electrical panel, under the aft deck for the battery work needed (which included a well-needed cleaning of all of the terminal connections) and work in the closet in which the inverter lives - which of course was my job.

Meanwhile I was also getting started on the shade screens for the side windows. These screens cut 80% of the sun coming through yet it is very easy to see out of the windows. Some fast food places use screening similar to this - you see an advertisement from the outside yet inside there is no restricted view. Very helpful when it is hot - plus it really provides privacy at a dock because we can see out but folks walking by can't see in. Of course when it's  dark and we have lights on, it's like there is nothing on the window! Good thing we also have curtains.

This is the after view with the starboard side screen completed.

We've to many stores in the area as we worked to get the boat ready to head out. One was JoAnn Fabrics - as you can see, Steve was having fun with the masks as we waited to check out :-) I just can't take him anywhere!

One of our new purchases was a clock - fairly large so we can see it easily - but the best part is that it has the date and day! Now we don't have to wonder what day of the week it is. As you can see, it's still quite warm today. Hopefully it will begin to cool off as we take off tomorrow.

Today was the last day to finish up the projects - Steve spent a good part of the day putting in snaps both in the boat and into the shade screen for the port side.

He set up shop on the picnic table in front of the boat - in the shade of course as being in the sun was not a good thing with the heat. After all, they were warning the elderly to stay out of the sun and drink lots of water!

We are very happy with the finished product. Bikes are on the boat .... things are really coming together.

Turkey on the grill - a nice finish to a good work day. We really need to leave here though - it's time for a rest. I'm not quite sure where the days go but it seems we are working on one project or another from morning til evening.

It finally was really time to celebrate! It's time to leave (tomorrow - Saturday) and the new boat has a name: Guppy :-)

In Marathon we had seen a small trawler (about 30 feet) and kicked around the idea of buying it and using it as a Canadian boat but it was in Florida and the need to take it north just didn't make sense. Steve REALLY like the boat - and the name. So it just seemed to make sense that this boat for Canada be name Guppy!
