After our two separate hikes on the way to Lincoln, Stephanie and Christopher arrived at our condo. We were all ready for a fun afternoon at the One Love Brewery. Scott wore his "Original One Love T-shirt from his previous trip which he assured us got us a great table. And it was! I learned what a "Flight" of beer is. You can see the little rack holding 6 glasses of beer. The idea is you can sample a lot of beers without ordering a full mug. Given two "Flights" were ordered we all got to taste everything. The website is fun and gives you an idea of the food. One Love Brewery website
Several appetizers were ordered and we took our time just enjoying the afternoon. All of the food was great.
Then we retired back to our condo for the evening. We played several games of Up and Down the river. Scott won the first game but Stephanie revoked his "Winner" status because he did not win the overall point score totals. An interesting twist on determining the winner! Scott submitted an appeal that pretty much went ignored.
The next morning we were up early and ready for a hike on the Greeley Ponds trail. We wanted to get an early start so we could eat a late breakfast at FlapJacks before Christopher and Stephanie headed back to Burlington. The view of the mountains as we came out of the condo building was breathtaking. The beginning of the trail was pretty wet and muddy. Fortunately there were a number of wooden walkways that for the most part kept us out of the mud. We walked along the trail likes ducks in a row!
We were anxious to get to a higher elevation to get out of the mud. Of course that had its own challenges! Fortunately, the so called trail was somewhat well marked.
Greeley Pond |
It is a secluded setting with beautiful trees and very clear water. It reminded me very much of my trips to Canada. We continued hiking a little further and then made the return trip.
By the time we got back everyone was ready for breakfast. The Scotts had been there before and assured me it was a great place for breakfast. It was crowded but we didn't have to wait too long for a table.
I mentioned I was trying to decide between the garden omelet and the smoked salmon Benedict. Christopher had a great idea. He ordered the omelet and I ordered the Benedict, and then we split them. The Scotts were correct, it was a great breakfast. We said goodbye to Christopher and Stephanie and relaxed in our condo the remainder of the day.
Lincoln Woods Trail |
There were also some cool suspension bridges.
There was also a side trail a few miles further that went to Franconia Falls. We came to a spot where a bridge was out and Terri decided to head back which Scott had already done. There was a way around the bridge through the creek that looked pretty safe. The word "Falls" sounded intriguing to me so I kept going. I was glad I did. The falls was worth the extra several miles.
The falls ran from the top of the rocks pictured above and eventually dumped into a small pretty blue pool before continuing down the slope.
I was pretty worn out by the time I got back to the car because I knew Terri and Scott had a long wait for my return. We went back to the condo and had leftovers for lunch.
Knowing this was our last full day, there was one short hike we hadn't completed. That was to the Basin. Scott said it was worth the effort so away we went again, after deciding to have a Chinese takeout dinner. The day before, we heard our busboy at Flapjacks telling a woman how much he enjoyed her restaurant. I got more information from him and we all were hoping for some good Chinese food in of all places Lincoln, NH. Worth a try.
The hike to the Basin was again wonderful and different. Lots of huge rocks and running water. Here are just a small number of the pictures Terri and I kept taking.
The Imperial Chinese Restaurant dinner was excellent. Well beyond our expectations. It was so good that it pretty much convinced us that we need to make Lincoln, NH an annual event!
