Yesterday's
weather was pretty much as predicted – showers off and on with
winds in the 15 mph range. Not bad but not a day to travel so we just
hunkered down in our anchorage – with an additional line to a big
tree in the front! No more repeats of the night before for us :-)
I
read while Steve explored the surrounding island and shore. It's
blueberry time in the North Channel and Steve was rewarded with a
nice little bag of wild blueberries. Strange but they are very small
compared to what is available in the stores but very tasty! The night
was nicely quiet :-) No pulling of anchors or squalls running around.
Today
was mostly sunny with a cool breeze – the north winds are coming
this way which is fine with us as it's been too hot for the past few
days. The cliffs on the way out of Baie Fine were just as fun to see
as they were on the way in.
We
were headed for McGregor Bay – still traveling north. Part of this bay
is a provincial park so that means no cottages will be on
the shores. It's a bit off of the beaten path so we didn't expect to
see too many other boats – we weren't disappointed! With all of the
small rock islands, this area reminds us of Stony Lake on the Trent.
Coolest
cottage we passed? The very small cottage made from what appeared to
be local stone with a solar panel on top. The best part? The front
door handle was made from a deer antler :-)
Bet even my Uncle Leo hasn't
made one of those!
We
ended up in a nice little bay anchorage (I know they all look alike!)
with GREAT holding for the front anchors (yes – two of them) and an
aft line tied to a big pine tree. We have developed new standards for
our anchorages after the other night :-)
Steve
had his fishing pole out pretty quickly and pulled up a pretty nice
bass. A belated thought was that he acted too hastily is tossing it
back (it was a nice appetizer size) – perhaps there will be
another!
It's very nice here - perhaps we'll stay ....
