When we left Port Severn yesterday morning, it was overcast and not much wind. Perfect for the 10 miles to Midland. With yesterday being the start of the long weekend up here, Midland seemed the perfect place to just lay low and stay away from the places all the boaters will congregate. Not that we're antisocial - just like it a bit quieter than many boaters seem to! Last lock on the Trent Canal ....
The granite islands (huge rocks really) are everywhere in this area. It's also called the Thirty Thousand Islands to give you an idea of how many islands are around. The water is very clear and today was very calm. No problems finding any of the buoys!
The city of Midland is easy to find - as you approach from the water, the very visible mural painted on the side of an old grainery. There are 30 murals around town depicting some of the history of the area. If you are interested in seeing a video of them, go to (note: you'll have to double click the back arrow to get back to the blog) : http://www.visitgeorgianbay.ca/midland-penetang-region.cfm?action=1&things_to_doid=47
It was kind of fun spotting them as we rode around town on our bikes.
First stop? Cheryl's (of Surone/DeJa Vu) old office! Webb & Associates is now owned by Peter and Cheryl's son, Michael. In need of some parts that we were having a hard time finding, we ordered what we needed and had them sent to Michael's office as we knew we were headed that direction. He was kind enough to even pay the COD charge - trusting fellow :-)
It was fun to see the office - kind of like putting a face on a voice that you've know a long time.
Today (Saturday) was a long ride (uphill most of the way!) to West Marine and a Dollar Store for some additional things we needed to complete - of course - projects :-) One of these days, we'll have Guppy just the way we like!
Bonus: I found a new bike seat that is the cushiest thing EVER!!! Don't know why I waited so long!
Anyway, storms are due in tomorrow (Sunday) so we'll enjoy being here one more day and then leave on Monday. Today is the hottest (95) and from here it's supposed to cool down to the 70's during the day and 60's at night. Where is our air-conditioned trawler???
