Sunday June 12: Moored at Lock 7 on the Erie Canal

The rain let up about 9 am at Waterford and was not supposed to return until later today, so we took advantage of the break in the rain and headed west about 9 o'clock or so. The 3rd of 6 locks today took us up again so we continue rising above sea level. Basically we are traveling in an westerly direction along the Mohawk River with dams and locks interspersed with natural river areas. Lock 7 as seen from the top (looking east). It has a dam right next to it which the first 5 locks today didn't necessarily have.
Having only traveled 13 miles from Waterford, the distance was not long but with 6 locks it just takes time! We had already picked out a spot for the night - a wall along the top of lock 7. It's a very quiet spot with a number of people fishing both above and below the lock. Very reminiscent of the Trent. And 20 amp electric from the light pole to boot! Tomorrow: on to the Schenectady Yacht Club to meet John and Daisy!
