We are still in Waterford tonight as it rained a good part of the day and this is just a nice place to be! Biking yesterday was great - found a McDonald's about a mile away so we have been there twice already! Also a great meat market so the freezer is again full.
Project for the day yesterday was to clean the boat. Having been in salt water for 6 months and traveling the intercoastal with it's muddy waters for the last 3 months has taken it's toll. We had developed what is referred to as the ICW moustache on the bow of the boat. First step was to pull the front end in and let the back swing out. This allowed Steve to use a cleaner (Slimy Grimy - works GREAT) with a rag on the end of the brush to clean the hull. You can really see the difference - how nice the boat looks :-) Then spin the boat around and repeat on the other side. In the meantime, I polished all of the "stainless steel" that was again beginning to show a little rust. Thankfully we'll be in fresh water for the next few months
Steve found a new way to shop at the local grocery store. It's a good walk to the store but they let you take the carts back to the boat. (They have to 'unlock' the cart so it can be removed from the lot - not sure how that works but the wheels on the cart lock up when it crosses over perimeter around the store.) Then once a week the store sends a truck over to the dock area to collect the carts that boaters have brought back. What a nice thing!! So Steve got lots of stuff that we haven't been able to pick up as regular grocery stores have been unavailable for some time now.
Today was only the second time it has rained during the day since we left Florida at the end of April. We have been very fortunate with the weather. It's now jean/sweatshirt weather which is fine with us. Better than the 90 degree days of the last week. So we wore raingear for the trek to breakfast. It's done raining for a while but when we leave tomorrow I suspect we'll be traveling in the rain.
Steve took a last ride around town and took a few pictures of the old lock and some of the plaques with the history of the canals. Off tomorrow for Schenectady - Steve's brother John and his wife Daisy are meeting us on Monday! Looking forward to a good time traveling with them for a few days :-)
