Wednesday November 5: Daytona Beach

It was cloudy and overcast when we left Marineland at 7:15 yesterday morning. The currents were going our way so we changed our plans which called for a later departure time.

The clouds stayed with us for a good part of the 5 1/2 hour trip to Daytona Beach. Not rain clouds - just clouds!

More marshlands gradually making way to the high rises of the beaches of Daytona.

The bridge pillars here are the best! I don't recall seeing any other bridges that have mosaic tile on them. And it's only the Broadway bridge here.

There are plenty of other bridges in this area - the greatest thing about us traveling with the mast down is that we make it under almost every bridge between here and the Keys. Our overall height is now 15 1/2 feet instead of 21.2 feet.

It's not a big deal but definitely does save some time waiting for the "only open on a schedule" bridges.

We pulled into Seven Seas Marina (it's one of the very few that is on the coast side here in Daytona Beach), got the bikes off - and found my rear tire was flat.

This after Steve's bike tire was flat in St. Augustine! His had a staple in it but it appeared as though mine had one or more very sharp spiky things that were all over the marina in St. Augustine.

Good thing we had a spare tube!

One of the reasons we really like it here is the opportunity to ride our bikes on the beach. Not too many places allow bikes - this place even allows cars!!

Nice beach, nice weather, GREAT breakfast place right next to the marina. What's not to like!

There was a bit of work today - change in injector pump oil (every 50 hour routine maintenance) and Steve managed to find the small, annoying leak in the fresh water system.

Just every so often the fresh water pump would run - which it shouldn't do unless the water was turned on at a sink. So when the pump runs without a faucet on, there is a leak. Turns out it was in the cold water line in the sink in the forward head.

Nice job Steve!!

So it's again been a nice day and a half.

Sunset last night was what is becoming the norm here in mid-southern Florida.

We are right at the end of the dock here at Seven Seas - the perfect spot for ease of in/out (the cross current can be fairly wicked depending on the tides).

We'll leave tomorrow sometime. Maybe after breakfast out - there is just something about fresh coffee being brought to the table that is hard to beat!

In the meantime, something we never saw before: a drive in church! Basically an old drive in theatre (maybe ?) with a sign indicating the channel to which you should turn to hear the service.

These folks in Florida think of everything :-)
