Wednesday November 12: Serenity Island

Pictures: Not sure what is going on with Blogspot but when you click on the pictures, they replace the blog in the current window. You will need to use the back arrow to get back to the body of the blog.

As we left the Eau Gallie River this morning, the very large wood storks were again hanging around the public park along the river.

These are HUGE birds. The first time we ever saw any was at Edisto Island at Jim and Linda's (Symmetry) place in the marshlands in front of their home.

It was a surprise to see them here as they seemed to not like to be around people all that much. For more info on wood storks, click here.

It was a very pleasant day on the water. The sun was out, cloudless sky and the windy, rainy weather seemed to have finally passed.

We enjoyed the two days at Eau Gallie but it was time to move on.  Sadly there was a pot luck dinner at the marina tonight but we were really wanting to head off to anchor for the night.

Sailboats were out in full force today. Some with their brightly colored spinnaker sails flying.

Before long (only 18 miles) we were nicely tucked behind Serenity Island for the night. Winds were from the north/northwest so we anchored on the south side of the island. First time for that as usually we are on the west side for protection from eastern winds.

Nice view of the island though with a number of dolphin coming in during the late afternoon. Seems like they were looking for dinner!

It wasn't long before Steve was in the water and snorkeling around to see what was around.

The water is NOT warm yet. Crazy.

But he saw lots of fish including snappers, small tropical fish and nice sheepshead (very good to eat - not like the Lake Erie sheephead).

All in all it was a nice day with a good sunset. Off tomorrow for Vero Beach.
