Friday June 13: Fenelon Falls - Back on the Water!
What a nice 3 weeks it has been! We left Jacksonville and Yesterday's Dream in late May. The drive to Ohio was broken up with a night at Jim and Linda's on South Edisto Island, lunch with Sailor Dave and Vivian (who made the greatest Miso soup EVER - Steve has the recipe if you want it, send him an email) in Myrtle Beach and then three nights at Matt and Wendy's at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Enjoyed being around kids again!
And finally a night's stop in Charleston, WV to break up the 10 hour drive to Terri and Scott's in Xenia. It was a nice get together on Memorial Day with Steve's family before heading out for the farm in Loudonville.
I'm not sure where the two week since then went although much was accomplished between dentist, doctor and eye checkup appointments. In a matter two weeks, we both had new glasses, Steve new contacts and two crowns. Plus lots of time to visit with family and friends.
It was finally time to head north to move onto Guppy for the summer. It's always a challenge getting us and our 'stuff' for Guppy to Fenelon Falls in Ontario. Car rental companies will only let you drop a car at the airport in Toronto.
So the first step is to pick up a car in Cleveland - transferring everything from Julie and Jim's car (which we used for the last two days in Ohio) to the rental car which we have 24 hours to deliver to Toronto for the bargain price of $250! (But we made out like bandits as the rental from Jacksonville to Cleveland for 3 weeks was a total of $303!!!)
We spent Tuesday night in Buffalo to break up the trip and also to time going thru Toronto. It's definitely a place you want to avoid at rush hour!!
First though south of Toronto we stopped in Mississauga and picked up a SECOND rental car! Of course we needed to transfer our stuff again .... The second rental will be dropped of at Linday (20 minutes from Fenelon Falls) and will allow us to drop the Cleveland rental at the Toronto airport and continue on our way north.
Finally, made it to Fenelon Falls marina about 2 pm :-) on Wednesday.
Guppy wasn't quite ready to be put in the water but within an hour we were off and on our way to the lock wall. It was nice to be back!
All of that was two days ago - it is now Friday. Yesterday was just sort of a daze as we worked to get the boat back in working order. First priorities: install new inverter, install new battery charger and check out why the trim tabs weren't working. Nine months sitting is definitely hard on a boat.
But by the end of the day the battery charger was in and working. The inverter in but still having issues. The trim tabs - still not sure what is going on but closing in.
The saddest thing: no time for lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant of all time! That was made up for today though :-)
Meanwhile, the problem with the inverter was found and corrected. The problem with the trim tabs found and corrected.
Now it was time for the fun stuff: putting up the new canvas I made for Guppy!!
The smaller back piece went up first then we tackled the flybridge canvas. It's 30% larger so basically it's just more cumbersome to handle.
Both canvases fit very nicely and I have to say I was quite pleased! Both of these were made from patterns using the old canvas so it wasn't all that hard to do. Sure glad it they were done by the time we left Marathon!
The flybridge top went up pretty easily - we made only one goof (OK - fine - I made the goof :-) ) when reconnecting the poles back together.
It's really fun when things work the way they should!
So here we are in Fenelon Falls at the lock wall. It's been a great couple of days - now it's time to relax a bit :-)
