The local boaters here at Jacksonville Beach told us the best time to leave when heading south to St. Augustine was 1 hour before high tide at the Hwy 120 bridge - which meant a leave time of 10:45 for us.
Great! This would give us time to ride the bikes to Publix and do some real shopping. Sadly the 30% chance of rain came about 10 minutes into our 2 mile ride. I'm sure it won't be the last time we get soaked and at least it was reasonably warm in the low 60's.
Steve found a creative way to hang stuff up to dry as we moved on down the waterway. The umbrellas were used to walk to breakfast at 10 am (late opening place!). By the time we arrived at St. Augustine, everything was dry.
As I sit and write this, I hear rain on the roof. Mmmm... the plan was to ride to the fort for the parade of the "British Night Watch and Grand Illumination Parade" that starts at 8 pm. Don't think that's going to happen - I've had enough of being rained on today!
Most of the day was spent traveling in rain - not a problem with the flybridge enclosure and eventually the sun did make an appearance. The rains were coming from offshore as we had a light east wind.
Somewhere in the mist behind us is High Spirits. Joe and Joy are on a mooring ball tonight - we opted for a marina about a mile west of downtown St. Augustine. Being here we are able to have a truck deliver diesel to us which makes for quite a bit of a break price-wise. We should have enough fuel then for the rest of the trip to Marathon (about 500 miles).
The day of rain did have a reward of a rainbow. Always fun to see :-)
Tomorrow, a couple of projects, breakfast out, and a trip to the Pirate's Museum. We're told it's really good. We'll see.
It'll be nice to be here a couple of days. This is really a nice city!
