A new plan has been formulated. After spending more time digging the 'wood' away from the shaft tube end in the boat, we've decided on a less invasive plan. Our original plan was ideal - this one is hopefully as effective but way less involved.
After this area is dry (there is a fan blowing on it to further that end), Dave (the fiberglass guy) will rebuild the box - filling it with some kind of non-water absorbing material. Apparently water has been in the keel for quite some time so why not just let it? The real goal is to just make sure it isn't coming into the boat.
So tomorrow morning, Dave will begin (assuming it's dry enough) adding fiberglass and whatever to keep the water from entering the boat. He doesn't think it will take long so it is possible we may be back on the water by the weekend. We'll see.
In the meantime, the sun shines one day and it rains like crazy the next. The days seem to blend more here than when we are on the boat.
Almost every day involves a trip to the boat for at least a few hours. Tomorrow we hope to just watch Dave at work. Watch and learn.
Don will replace the cutlass bearing tomorrow and then we'll replace the shaft and get everything hooked back up.
In the meantime Steve has been entertained by all of the butterflies around. Maybe he has a second career going here ....
