Monday February 4: Score Two for Yesterday's Dream!

Well, the only good thing the Ravens did last night was to give up a safety with 4 seconds left in the game.

The football pool at the Marina was quite fun for us as the additional two points for the 49er's gave a final score of 31 - 34. Winning combination for the final then was: 1-4 - which was us!! How fun for an investment of $18 and a return of $125 :-)

Wish we could do so well in the stock market ....

There was only so much playing around going on though as Steve decided the boat needed to be cleaned up and junk put away. I was all for it and took the opportunity to clean all of the wallpaper around the inside front deck area.

Still after 7 years of owning this boat we haven't figured out what to do with the finish (or rather lack of it) on this wood. So we just leave it but it really needs refinished or something.

Sadly when I walked into the boat I spotted a casualty of Steve's attempt to clean everything up.

Some things are just wrong and a naked cactus guy is one of them! He should never be seen with no clothes ....

Steve said he was really in need of cleaning so he did what was needed to be done.

Meanwhile I found the rest of cactus guy hanging out to dry on the aft railing.

Colleen next door couldn't figure out what in the world that was hanging out on the railing!

It's just cactus guy - not to worry :-)

Back together again and he still works as good as ever plus he looks a lot better all cleaned up!

In the meantime, more work was happening. After many years of putting up with a top on the cabin door that just didn't slide very well, we finally decided to fix it. First thing was to cut out the small wood pieces that kept the top from sliding all of the way out.

Guess this was part of what deterred us to begin with - hating to cut into the trim around the door.

Next the top was removed. You can see along the sides where the wood scraped every time and really made the fit too tight. Most likely water from the formerly leaky windows made it's way into these spaces and delaminated the veneer enough to make the fit just too tight.

The solution was to chisel away the wood that had swelled. There is no longer any water able to enter this area any more of course so we expect this to not happen again.

Once that bad wood was chiseled away, the top was able to slide in and out very nicely.

Why was it that we waited so long? And put up with this so long???

One of the last not fun jobs was to finish making sure all of the thru hull fittings were grounded. We started this project two months ago but never did the remaining 3 fittings. Mostly because these fittings are not underwater so it was not quite the issue as the other ones which would sink the boat if they failed.

This required the removal of the generator battery and then you-know-who had to climb down under the floor, working on my back and reaching overhead to work to attach the grounding wires.

Steve of course had to get everything ready and hand tools down - his work included a trip to Home Depot. Mmmm.... I think I may have gotten the better deal this time!!

We are still waiting for the wind to die or at least come from the east instead of the north - it looks like it might be tomorrow. The plan is to take a short trip - just stay on the bay side, find a nice little island and anchor for the night. We miss traveling .....
